Health

Humans evolved with berries as a major part of their diet. Berries were eaten fresh or dried to add nutrition and flavor to winter diet. People were providing their bodies with many of their needs such as antioxidants and vitamins. Today's science helps us to understand just how important berries, especially blueberries are to our health.

Nutrition Facts…

A new big health benefit from eating blueberries has been recently discovered by the U.S.D.A. Blueberries have been found to contain an anti-cholesterol compound, called pterostilbene, which works without causing the side effects of commercial cholesterol drugs.

Blueberries were found to have the highest level of antioxidant activity of any fruit or vegetable tested by the U.S.D.A. Eating 1/3 cup of the blueberries daily will provide a large part of the antioxidant activity required to maintain health and delay aging, particularlyin in the areas of short-term memory, balance and co-ordination.

Blueberries have a very high concentration of anthocyanin, a natural compound linked with many health benefits. Among these benefits are the reduction of eyestrain and the improvement of nigh vision.

Blueberries have also been found to reduce the insulin requirements of diabetics and to help control urinary tract infections. Who would have ever thought this delicious little blue fruit would have so much health benefit?
